South African National Championships: Sebastien Rousseau Downs African Record

DURBAN, South Africa, April 14. SEBASTIEN Rousseau lowered his African record in the men's 200 fly at the South African National Championships held in Durban. Rousseau clocked a time of 1:55.51 to crush his previous record of 1:58.03 set last April.

"The aim was to clock around 1:56 in the semifinal, and hold some energy back for the final, and I still can't believe the time I clocked," Rousseau told Swimming South Africa.

Roland Schoeman hit the wall in 21.81 in the men's 50 free semis after posting a time of 21.83 during prelims earlier today. Meanwhile, Jean Basson won the men's 400 free in 3:48.58 to earn a spot at the World Championships.

In the men's 100 breast semis, Cameron van der Burgh checked in with a time of 1:00.28 for the win. In other action, Wendy Trott captured the women's 400 free with a time of 4:08.94, while Chanelle Van Wyk topped the women's 50 free semis in 26.01. Additionally, Achieng Ajulu-Busnell turned in a 1:10.88 in the women's 100 breast semis, while Zimbabwe's Kirsty Coventry clocked a 2:10.38 to lead the women's 200 back semis. In the final semifinal heats of the day, George Du Rand topped the men's 200 back in 1:59.88.
