Denmark Long Course Championships: Final Day Features More National Records

ESBJERG, Denmark, April 12. THE last day of swimming at the Denmark Long Course Championships featured more national records.

Switzerland's Flori Lang smashed his national record in the men's 50 free with a winning time of 22.06. That effort cleared his 22.27 set at the Beijing Olympics. Jani Rusi finished second with a time of 22.60.

Pernille Larsen followed with a Denmark record in the women's 200 back. She clocked a 2:10.37 to wipe out her 2:11.10 set in March.

Meanwhile, Pal Joensen of The Faroe Islands continued his rapid progression as a strong distance freestyler with a winning time of 7:54.40 in the men's 800 free. That effort beat his national record of 7:56.90 set in August 2008.

Micha Ostergaard then cruised in the women's 200 fly with a winning time of 2:10.63. Michelle Strandskov provided her closest competition with a second-place 2:15.54.

National-record holder Chris Christensen picked up the men's 200 breast crown in 2:15.64 with Thijs van Valkengoed of The Netherlands placing second in 2:16.19.

Lotte Friis then joined the 15:00 club in the women's 1500 free with a sterling time of 15:58.44. That performance crushed her previous record of 16:09.10 set in March, and moved her closer to the European record of 15:52.84 set by Alessia Filippi of Italy in July 2008.

The Elitesvom Esbjerg team of Christensen, Jacob Carstensen, Nikolai Kirketerp Moller and Nicolai Graae Hansen downed the men's 400 medley relay national record with a time of 3:44.77. The effort wiped out the 3:46.94 set by Sigma back in 2007.

Sto Damer's Line Moller Pedersen, Rikke Moller Pedersen, Julie Hougard and Randi Nielsen posted a time of 4:12.15 to break the national record of 4:15.47 set by West Swim back in 2005 in the women's 400 medley relay. Sigma Nordsjaelland also cleared the former record with a second-place 4:15.02.
