SwimmingWorldMagazine.com Rewind: 1988 YMCA National Championships -- April 8, 2009

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, April 8. LAST night, a pair of 21-year-old YMCA records fell when Middle Tyger upended two 1988 standards set by the Wilton Family YMCA.

Haley Lips posted a time of 53.28 in the 100 fly, which eclipsed the 53.67 set by Janel Jorgensen of Wilton Family in 1988. Additionally, the Middle Tyger 400 free relay of Lips, Addie Carne, Annie Gillig and Laura Simon posted a time of 3:24.21 to erase the 3:24.28 set by Jorgensen's Wilton Family squad in 1988.

As The Record of the Sport, it is often fun to look back into our archives for original reporting on records set. As a treat to our fans, here's a rewind back to 1988 for the article originally written by Sandra Todd for Swimming World.
