FINA Masters World Record Roundup

PHOENIX, Arizona, April 2. IT has been a busy couple of weeks for Masters swimmers as several more FINA Masters world records have fallen by the wayside throughout the globe.

Olympic gold medalist Alex Baumann took to the water at the Ontario Masters Short Course Championships, and left the meet with a FINA Masters world record in the 45-49 age group. He clocked a time of 2:12.01 in the 200 IM to clear the 2008 global standard of 2:13.42 set by Glenn Mills.

Meanwhile, at the dual-sanctioned USA Swimming Sectionals held at the IU Natatorium at IUPUI, Jack Groselle knocked down the long course 55-59 age division FINA Masters world record in the 200 free. Groselle posted a 2:07.12 to break Jim McConica's 2005 record of 2:08.03. Groselle also clocked a 56.20 in the 100 free to break the FINA Masters world record of 57.85 set by Norway's Alexander Mills in 2006.

Additionally, Italian Alberto Montini put together a pair of FINA Masters world records in the 40-44 age group at a long course meet held in San Marino. He hit the wall in 29.63 in the 50 breast to break the 2008 record of 29.76 set by Japan's Yozo Fujii. He also stopped the clock in 1:05.08 in the 100 breast to lower his standard of 1:05.93 set last year.
