Portugal Long Course Championships: Diogo Filipe Carvalho Claims Pair of National Records

LISBON, Portugal, March 31. DURING the Portugal Long Course Championships held in Lisbon, Diogo Filipe Carvalho walked away with a pair of national-record setting efforts.

Simao Gomes Morgado followed in the men's 50 fly to edge his national record with a 24.03. He previously held the record with a 24.05 back in 2006.

Morgado, however, lost the men's 100 fly record to Carvalho, who turned in a 52.42 to win the event. Morgado set the old record with a 52.80 at the Beijing Olympics. Carvalho returned in the men's 400 IM with a national-record time of 4:19.54. That swim crushed the 4:23.89 set by Carlos Esteves De Almeida in March of 2008.

Alexandre Escudier Agostinho clocked a time of 22.44 in the men's 50 free to clear the national record in the splash-and-dash. The readout beat the 2002 record of 22.86 set by Pedro Silva in Berlin.

In women's action, Patricia Vilas Conceicao touched in 26.00 in the women's 50 free to earn the national record. That effort lowered her standard of 26.43 set back in 2004.
