Water Polo Spanning North America. This Week’s NorAm Tourneys Welcome Four Countries for Yellow Ball Action

Colorado Springs, CO—Sure, water polo may have its origins in the aquatically fertile nations of Western Europe. Some may say that the sport is still dominated by that region. But this week (Dec. 27-30) it is North
America, not Europe that will be in the spotlight as the U.S. and Canada host the North American Junior Championships.

Two separate venues will be home to the tournament—the boys action taking place in Southern California and the girls sprinting off in Montreal. Both tournaments features six-team fields.

The girls’ tournament will be held at the Centre Claude Robillard Pool in the heart of Montreal. The U.S. will have two water polo delegations in the
pool up north, USA Youth Team 1 and USA Youth Team 2. Both teams will tackle a bracket that includes two Canadian Junior teams, one Canadian Youth team,
and the Australian Youth Team. Competition begins Wednesday (Dec. 27) at 9:30 a.m. and runs through Saturday (Dec. 30). The tourney championship will
be played at 12:10 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

The U.S. Water Polo National Aquatic Center, which was the official training site of this year’s men’s and women’s Olympic teams, will now give way to water polo’s youth. The boys will splash into play there on Wednesday (Dec. 27). The pool, which is located on the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos, will accommodate the six teams, two of them from the U.S., through Dec. 30. Australia, Japan, and two teams from Canada will compete for the tournament crown with the U.S. Preliminary play will give way to the tournament finals on Saturday (Dec. 30), the championship game being played at 11:00 a.m.
