Virginia 2A High School State Championships

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia, March 18. AT the Virginia 2A Boys High School State Championships, Lafayette and Jamestown went head-to-head. Lafayette came out on top with 216 points, followed closely by Jamestown (213) and Brentsville District (151). On the girls' side, Hidden Valley secured first-place with 308 points, followed by Lafayette (182) and Western Albemarle (160).

Boys Results
Lafayette won two of three relays. Ben Colley, Jason Haigh, Ben LeRose, and Ricky Knicely teamed up for a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:37.03).

Seth Wensel (Christiansburg) surpassed Matt McLean's (Potomac Falls) 2005 state record in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:39.09. He also won the 500 freestyle (4:34.69).

In the diving competition, Jamestown's Ben Davidson and Evan Walter took first (378.40) and second (351.50) place respectively. Tim Edwards (Orange County) finished third with a score of 347.20.

Paul Schisa joined Colley, LeRose, and Knicely in the 200 freestyle relay for a first-place finishing time of 1:28.10.

Blacksburg's Evan Gregg set meet records in the 200 IM (1:48.29) and the 100 freestyle (44.63).

Jon Keltner of Jamestown had individual wins in the 100 butterfly (50.67) and 100 backstroke (51.87).

Brentsville District closed the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle relay (3:15.78). Nathan Brown, Chuckie Zumbaugh, Michael Hughes, and Ryan Dunne contributed to the win.

Girls Results
Lauren Hines, Katie Young, Drew Dillon, and Devin Henry (Hidden Valley) set a meet record in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:48.26. Hines also had dual individual wins and records in the 100 freestyle (51.15) and 100 backstroke (55.81).

Ali Horn (Cave Spring) set meet records in the 200 IM (2:03.31) and the 100 butterfly (54.69).

The diving competition was won by William Byrd's Melissa Wheeler (318.15). Alex Poletti (Western Albemarle) and Lindsay Skolrood (Hidden Valley) followed with scores of 291.85 and 281.65 respectively.

Catie Pittman, Lizzie Mitchell, Colby Jensen, and Catherine O'Donnell combined for a win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:40.60).

Lauren Gray (Hidden Valley) set a meet record in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:54.95. She teamed up with Henry, Katherine Moles, and Hines for a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:34.57). The group surpassed Lafayette's 2005 record by 3.03 seconds.
