USA Swimming Sectionals, Federal Way: Ariana Kukors Just Misses American Record in 200-yard IM

FEDERAL WAY, Washington, March 15. AFTER taking finals off last night due to an academic commitment, KING's Ariana Kukors remained on fire during the last day of swimming at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Federal Way, Wash.

Kukors crushed the meet record in the women's 200-yard IM with a winning time of 1:53.45. The time just missed Julia Smit's American record of 1:53.11 set last month in the same pool. The effort also made Kukors second all time in the event. Colorado Stars' Missy Franklin, 13, also impressed with a 1:59.59 for second. Tacoma's Jeremy Gregory picked up a meet record of his own when he won the men's 200-yard IM in 1:48.94.

Salmon Bay's Amber McDermott raced to victory in the women's 1650-yard free with a meet-record time of 16:05.56, while Loveland's Jacob Ores clinched the men's 1650-yard free crown in 15:31.77.

Franklin completed the night with a quick time of 22.71 to win the women's 50-yard free, while Bellevue's Ethan Hallowell claimed the men's 50-yard free in 20.20.
