Italian Long Course Championships: Alessandro Terrin Rattles 50 Breast World Record

RICCIONE, Italy, March 8. IN the fourth day of swimming at the Italian Long Course Championships held in Riccione, Alessandro Terrin made a run at the world record in the men's 50 breast, but settled for a national record.

Terrin scorched the pool with a blazing time of 27.25, which just missed Oleg Lisogor's world record of 27.18 set back in 2002. The swim lowered Terrin's national record of 27.38 set during prelims.

Martina Carraro followed in the women's 100 breast with a national-record time of 1:08.40 to clip Ombretta Plos' preliminary standard of 1:08.47 set earlier in the day. Meanwhile, Federica Pellegrini crushed her Italian record of 54.40 in the women's 100 free with a sterling time of 53.55.

Francesca Segat smashed the women's 200 IM national record with a triumphant time of 2:12.20. The performance cleared the 2:13.08 set by Alessia Filippi in 2007.

In other swims, Caterina Giacchetti won the women's 200 fly in 2:09.29. Luca Marin came through in the men's 400 IM with a winning time of 4:13.10. Additionally, Filippi captured the women's 800 free in 8:26.80, while Lorenzo Benatti won the men's 100 fly in 52.92.
