MPSSAA 4A3A High School State Swimming Championships

LANDOVER, Maryland, March 5. AT the MPSSAA 4A3A High School State Swimming Championships, Broadneck won the boy's state title with 294 points. Severna Park and Thomas Johnson followed with scores of 239 and 189.5 respectively. On the girls' side, Severna Park took first (334), while Urbana placed second (275.5) and Eleanor Roosevelt finished third (269).

Boys Results
Broadneck won two of three relays. Stephen Robichaud, Taylor Smith, James Robichaud, and Doug McWhorter opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay (1:44.61). The boys teamed up in the 400 freestyle relay for a first-place finish (3:23.71) as well.

Smith and J. Robichaud had individual wins in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.20) and 200 IM (2:03.43) respectively.

Senior Justin Vagts (Severna Park) won the 200 (1:47.12) and 500 (4:50.48) freestyles.

Broadneck's Doug McWhorter won the 50 freestyle (22.25). He also set a state record in the 100 freestyle (48.13).

John Sheldon, Jonathan Moorman, Luke Dohrman, and Thomas Morgan (Huntingtown) set a state record in the 200 freestyle relay (1:33.44). Morgan also won the 100 backstroke (55.22).

Girls Results
Severna Park's Melissa Cropper, Kim Weyand, Sarah Lloyd, and Emily Lloyd set a state record in the 200 medley relay (1:48.36). Cropper also won the 100 backstroke (1:01.35).

S. Lloyd and E. Lloyd had dual individual wins. S. Lloyd set state records in the 200 IM (2:08.82) and the 100 butterfly (56.22), while E. Lloyd set state records in the 100 (50.89) and the 500 (5:08.06) freestyles.

Katherine Kline, Kiki Wasserman, Marissa Hand, and S. Lloyd clocked a time of 1:42.15 for a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay.

JoAnna Yeh (Urbana) lowered Kori Golden's 2007 state standard in the 200 freestyle by 2.5 seconds (1:55.67). She teamed up with Jessica Jimenex, Alexa Santis, and Kelsey Lake in the 400 freestyle relay. The girls set a state record with a time of 3:45.64.
