French International Meet: Israeli, Spanish National Records Fall

SAINT RAPHAEL, France, March 1. DURING the last session of long course meter swimming at the French International Meet held in Saint Raphael, both an Israel and Spanish national record fell.

Camille Muffat opened the evening with a triumphant time of 2:14.45 in the women's 200 IM, while Fabien Horth snatched the men's 200 IM with a top time of 2:03.66.

In a dominant swim, Coralie Balmy won the women's 400 free by nearly 10 seconds with a time of 4:05.36, while Anthony Pannier also had an easy victory with a time of 3:52.25 in the men's 400 free.

The rest of the evening featured sprint stroke events. Israel's Amit Ivry touched out Diane Bui Duyet, 27.11 to 27.19, in the women's 50 fly. Spain's Rafael Munoz Perez then crushed his national record in the men's 50 fly with a time of 23.30. His previous best had been a 23.60 set last March.

Meanwhile, Esther Baron walked away with the women's 50 back crown in 29.89, while Camille Lacourt snagged the men's 50 back title in 25.70.

Another national record fell in the women's 50 breast when Israel's Yuliya Banach clocked a time of 32.34 to better her previous best of 32.41 set last July. Additionally, Greece's Dimitrios Xynadas just missed the national record of 27.68 in the men's 50 breast set by Romanos Alyfantis back in 2005 when Xynadas won in 27.71.

The freestyle events closed the night with Malia Metella winning the women's 50 in 25.80, while Alain Bernard ripped off a 21.91 to win the men's 50 free.
