Pacific 10 Championships: Rebecca Soni, Elaine Breeden Down American, NCAA, U.S. Open Records; Cal Sets 400 Free Relay NCAA, U.S. Open Record -- February 28, 2009
FEDERAL WAY, Washington, February 28. A day after setting the NCAA record in the women's 100-yard breast, Rebecca Soni came back to snatch the 200-yard breast American, NCAA and U.S. Open standards at the Pacific 10 Championships.
Soni torched the pool with a blazing fast time of 2:04.75. That swim cleared Tara Kirk's 2006 American and U.S. Open record of 2:05.73. Additionally, Soni's effort lowered her NCAA standard of 2:06.11 set in Long Beach last year.

Elaine Breeden followed in the 200-yard fly with an American, NCAA and U.S. Open standard as she blew right past 1:50 with a 1:49.92. The swim proved to be a quantum leap in the event as the previous American and U.S. Open record had been a 1:51.27 set by Mary DeScenza at the Long Beach Grand Prix in January.
Meanwhile, Breeden's time also cleared the NCAA standard of 1:51.91, which had been the American record up until January, set by Natalie Coughlin back in 2002.

California closed the night with an NCAA and U.S. Open standard as Vollmer, Erica Dagg, Madison Kennedy and Hannah Wilson clocked a swift time of 3:11.05. The effort wiped out the 3:11.34 set by Arizona's Lacey Nymeyer, Anna Turner, Lara Jackson and Taylor Baughman last year.
With Hannah Wilson representing Hong Kong on the international circuit, the record should not eclipse Arizona's time as the American standard.

February 28, 2009 WOW! What a swim by Breeden! THREE SECONDS ahead of Harugushi, DEFENDING NCAA CHAMP! Did you see the look on her face? Submitted by: SwimDER94
February 28, 2009 Anyone know if Texas' men's relay or Cal's women's relay count as ARs? Ryan Verlatti from Texas had -0.10 reaction time but not DQ'ed, and Cal has Hannah Wilson (Hong Kong?). Submitted by: SwimDER94
