Pacific 10 Championships: Dana Vollmer Sets American, NCAA Record in 200 Free – With Splits

FEDERAL WAY, Washington, February 25. DURING the first night of swimming at the Pacific 10 Championships, California's Dana Vollmer clipped the American and NCAA record in the women's 200-yard free as a leadoff of California's winning 800-yard freestyle relay.

Vollmer led off the relay with a lightning fast 1:41.53 to beat the American and U.S. Open record of 1:41.66 set by former Golden Bear Natalie Coughlin in Long Beach in 2007. Additionally, the mark shattered Coughlin's NCAA record of 1:42.65 set at the 2002 NCAA Championships in Austin.

Cal clocked a Pac 10 record time of 6:56.87 to cruise to victory in the relay with the foursome of Vollmer, Madison Kennedy, Lauren Boyle and Hannah Wilson.

Arizona's quartet of Hailey DeGolia, Annie Chandler, Lara Jackson and Lindsey Kelley claimed the women's 200-yard medley relay with a winning time of 1:36.53.

California led the team race after the first day with 120 points, while Arizona stood second with 116 points. USC (106), Washington (104) and Orgeon State (96) rounded out the top five.

Results now have complete splits from the first evening of swimming.
