Tennessee High School Swimming and Diving Championships

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee, February 25. BAYLOR took the state title at the Tennessee High School Swimming and Diving Championships. The boys scored 418 points, while the girls scored 378 points. On the boys' side, Montgomery Bell placed second (243) and McCallie finished third (195.50). The Bearden and Franklin girls followed with scores of 291 and 178 respectively.

Boys Results

Reese Shirey, Spencer Rowe, Greg Roop, and Josh Sosna (Baylor) won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:31.52. Rowe also won the 100 breaststroke (56.53).

Kyle Owens of Science Hill set state records in the 200 IM (1:47.22) and the 100 backstroke (48.11). His 100 backstroke time surpassed Michael Gilliam's (Franklin Road) 1997 record.

Junior Jordan Mauney (Baylor) scored 535.05 in the diving competition to surpass Bob Vaught's (McCallie) 1982 state record. Zachary Woods (St. Georges Independent) finished second with a score of 460.80, followed by Michael Maughon (Maughon Diving School) with a score of 429.70.

Baylor also won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:22.72.

Senior Paschall Davis (Montgomery Bell) had individual wins in the 50 (20.98) and 100 (45.42) freestyles.

Nathan Vredeveld of Baylor won the 200 freestyle (1:39.42). He joined Roop, Matt Limerick, and Martin Grodzki to win the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:04.01. Grodzki also won the 500 freestyle (4:23.73).

Girls Results
Baylor's Arden Pitman, Alison Lusk, Anna Gwarjanski, and Sloane Pitman clocked a 1:41.63 in the 200 medley relay for a first-place finish. S. Pitman also won the 50 freestyle (22.58).

Senior Tori Lamp (Bearden) set a state record in the diving competition with a score of 514.80. The 1998 record (456.35) was held by Bethany Minser of Maryville. Julianne Wilson (Girls Preparatory) and Skye Sanders (South Doyle) placed second (482.75) and third (430.65) respectively.

Emma Michaels teamed up with S. Pitman, Lusk, and A. Pitman to win the 200 freestyle relay (1:33.35). A. Pitman also won the 100 backstroke (53.89). Her time was nearly .05 seconds off Margo McCawley's (St. Mary's) 2004 state record.

S. Pitman, Michaels, Gwarjanski, and A. Pitman closed the meet with a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:27.58).
