Utah 3-5A High School State Championships

PROVO, Utah, February 22. SIX teams walked away with state titles at the Utah High School State Championships. On the girls side, Judge Memorial Catholic (3A), Timpview (4A), and Skyline (5A) won with scores of 388, 367.5 and 307.5 respectively. Odgen (3A), Springville (4A), and Brighton (5A) took the boys state title with scores of 266, 293.5 and 362 respectively.

3A Results
Judge Memorial Catholic's Carolyn Carter, Kenzie Carter, Kate McMinimee, and Garam Kim clocked a 1:54.32 in the 200 medley relay for a first-place finish. Kim also won the 100 freestyle (54.63).

Junior Janessa Gammill (Logan) won the 200 (1:59.34) and 500 (5:24.07) freestyles.

Erin Wynn, Kristen Anderson, Mary Kathryn Brown, and Veronic Hunsaker of Wasatch won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:43.40. Hunsaker won the 50 freestyle (25.18) and the 100 breaststroke (1:11.52) as well.

McMinimee, Megan Bush, Cassandra Cokl, and Kim teamed up with a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:46.85).

Timmy Bates, Michael Kane, Bennett Purser, and Luke Monday of Logan finished first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:44.41. Bates also won the 100 backstroke (56.40).

Oliver Diamond (Judge) clocked a 21.96 in the 50 freestyle and a 48.17 in the 100 freestyles for a first-place finish in each.

Monday had a first-place finishes in the 200 (1:46.20) and 500 (4:52.00) freestyles.

Eric Birkin, Creighton Scovil, Paul Mair, and Jordan Martin won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:31.38. Birkin also won the 200 IM (2:04.45) and the 100 breaststroke (1:04.12).

The 200 medley relay team of Bates, Kane, Purser, and Monday also won the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:23.31.

4A Results
Isabela Castro, Kylie Harper, Meagan Stone, and Julia Moraes (Timpview) set a meet record in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:49.18. Castro also won the 500 freestyle (5:08.46) and the 100 backstroke (59.65).

Meghan Brockmeyer, Lizzy Davis, Alina Fong, and Winifred Lau (East) took first in the 200 freestyle relay (1:42.34). Lau also won the 100 freestyle (54.09).

McCall Blake teamed up with Stone, Moraes, and Castro for a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:38.38). Stone had first-place finishes in the 200 IM (2:09.48) and the 100 butterfly (57.66) as well.

Jake Taylor (Mountain Crest) set overall state records in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke with times of 1:51.74 and 49.87 respectively.

Murray's Andrew Brinker, Alan Brinkerhoff, Hayden Green, and Adam Ruben clocked a 1:39.89 in the 200 medley relay for a first-place finish.

Senior Joe Beutler (Snow Canyon) set an overall state record in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:40.97. His 500 freestyle time of 4:25.38 set a meet record and was nearly 1.30 seconds off the overall state record set by Rick Morley (Cyprus) in 1977.

Springville's Garrett Pope, Jefferson McClain, Shane Williams, and Channing Miller won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:30.98. Pope touched out Nathan Jensen (Timpview) by .01 seconds in the 50 freestyle for a first-place finishing time of 22.53.

Clark Calvin, Miller, McClain, and Cody Fullmer won the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:17.10.

5A Results
Kearns's Ciera Marsh, Melissa Bergesen, Annika Bergesen, and Adelin Marsh had a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:51.26).

Kimberly Welch (Lone Peak) won the 100 butterfly (55.45) and the 100 backstroke (57.57).

Catherine Woolston, Hannah Siebach, Welch, and Taryn Toolson won the 200 freestyle relay (1:38.43). Toolson also won the 50 freestyle (24.54) and the 100 breaststroke (1:07.65).

Sophomore Sydni Johanson (Skyline) won the 200 (1:55.92) and 500 (5:17.11) freestyles.

Johanson joined Angela Bennion, Natalie Bennion, and Nicolette Hansen in the 400 freestyle relay (3:40.40). A. Bennion also won the 100 freestyle (53.94).

Aaron Phillips, Patrick Roth, Kyle Spicer, and Cody Reed (Brighton) won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:38.71.

Senior Josh Tanner (Skyline) set a meet record in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:42.41. Reed touched out Tanner in the 100 freestyle by .01 seconds for a first-place finishing time of 46.96.

McKay King of American Fork won the 200 IM and the 100 backstroke (51.93). He set a meet record in the 200 IM with a time of 1:54.95.

Douglas Pizac, Brian Coburn, Max Huecksteadt, and Tanner won the 200 (1:27.20) and 400 (3:13.94) freestyle relays.
