Hope, Grand Valley Split

DEC. 9. IN NCAA Div. II competition in Michigan, Hope College and Grand Valley State split dual meet decisions yesterday. Hope's Flying Dutchmen beat the men of Grand Valley 137-92, while the host Lakes downed the Hope women 135-106.

Hope double winners in the men's meet were Brian Slagh in the 50-yard freestyle (:22.27) and 100-yard freestyle (:48.16) and B.J. Schoettle in the
500-yard freestyle (4:59.89) and 1000-yard freestyle (10:15.68).

Other Hope winners were Chris Hamstra, 200-yard freestyle (1:46.96); Chris Dattels, 100-yard butterfly (:53.18); Ian Kobes, 100-yard backstroke (:54.73);
and Josh Boss, 100-yard breaststroke (:57.22).

Hope double winners in the women's meet were Betsy Vandenberg in 200-yard individual medley (2:15.65) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.84) and Michelle Smith in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.56) and 500-yard freestyle (5:11.16).

Other Hope winners were Erin Vandenberg in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:55.16) and Audrey Arnold in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.64); and diver Hannah Rapson on the 3-meter board (254.02).
