Arizona State vs. Arizona -- February 14, 2009

TUCSON, Arizona, February 14. ON senior day at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center, the Arizona men's and women's swim and dive team's each topped Arizona State. The women won 174-109 while the men beat the Sun Devils, 178-83. The dual meet was held in the Kasser Family Pool and featured metered lanes as opposed to the traditional yard markings.

Senior Josh Arreguin stood out for the men's team today. The Tucson product won the 200 meter breaststroke with a very fast time of 2:09.81. Also leading the men was Jean Basson. Basson won the 200 and 400 meter freestyle with times of 1:49.12 and 3:55.22.

Justine Schluntz won the 100 meter backstroke in 1:01.44 and the 100 meter freestyle in 55.65. Also winning two events was Susana Helms who took the 400 and 800 meter freestyle.


"I thought everyone did a great job of competing today," said head coach Frank Busch. "I'm really proud of the effort shown and am excited to see what we can accomplish in the near future."

In the opening relay's, Arizona showed just how blessed with depth its team is this year, finishing four men's relay teams ahead of the top ASU squad and three women's relays topped ASU's fastest team.

In the 100 meter backstroke, Pete Stacy won his first event in his collegiate career, claiming the title with a time of 56.05.

In diving, Ainsley Oliver won the one-meter vent for the women and Ben Grado swept the men's events.

Next up for the Arizona swim and dive team's are the Pac-10 Championships. The women's team and diving team will head to Federal Way, Wash. the week of Feb. 25, while the men travel to Long Beach, Calif. the week of March 3.
