Speedo Eastern Canadian Championships: Matthew Swanston Triples

HALIFAX, Canada, February 13. DURING the first set of finals at the Speedo Eastern Canadian Championships, Swimming World five-star recruit Matthew Swanston, who signed with Stanford, claimed three event titles at the short course meter meet taking place in Nova Scotia.

Victoria Poon cruised to victory in the women's 50 free with a time of 25.06, while Andree Genereux touched second in 25.91. Charlotte Dandurand completed the top three in 26.21. In the men's 50 free, Minkwang Shu claimed the title in 23.36, while Fred Blais-Chauvin (23.43) and Karim Zayed (23.52) placed second and third.

The 200 IMs followed with Genevieve Samur downing Paige Schultz, 2:11.94 to 2:12.78, in the women's race. Lindsay Seemann finished third in 2:13.39. Meanwhile, Matthew Swanston captured the men's crown in 2:01.59. Tim Ruse (2:02.09) and Mathieu Bois (2:04.68) rounded out the top three.

Barbara Jardin dominated the women's 400 free with a time of 4:05.77, while Seemann took second in 4:10.93. Zsofi Balazs finished third in 4:15.19. Brandon Kingston snared the men's 400 free with a time of 3:52.72 with Xavier Desharnais finished second in 3:56.15. Marc-Andre Ruel touched third in 3:57.55.

Vanessa Charron followed in the women's 50 fly with a winning time of 27.34. Lindsay Delmar (27.59) and Schultz (27.71) collected second and third. Swanston pocketed his second title with a time of 24.78 to win the men's 50 fly. Christopher Bezeau took second in 25.01, while Marc-Andre Benoit took third in 25.06.

Gabrielle Soucisse hit the wall in 1:01.10 to win the women's 100 back, while Seemann took second with a time of 1:02.01. Marie-Pier Couillard clinched third in 1:02.33. Swanston earned his third crown of the night with a time of 54.69 in the men's 100 back. Charles Francis (55.14) and David Sharpe (55.36) rounded out the top three.
