Catherine Vogt Selected as Head U.S. Open Water Coach for the 2009 FINA World Championships

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado, February 5. USA Swimming named Catherine Vogt (Los Angeles) as the head U.S. open water coach for the 2009 FINA World Championships. Vogt will join coaches Bob Bowman (Baltimore, Md.) and Sean Hutchison (Seattle, Wash.) in Rome, who will serve as the men's and women's head coach, respectively.

Vogt is one of the top open water coaches in the country, bringing with her a depth of experience coaching athletes at both the national and international level. She served as an assistant coach for the 2008 U.S. Open Water World Championship team that competed in Seville, Spain, and also was a head coach at the Open Water test event held in Beijing prior to the 2008 Olympics.

"Catherine [Vogt] has been at the forefront of the open water movement here in the United States and has proven that she is a great coach both inside and outside of competition," said Lindsay Mintenko, USA Swimming's National Team Managing Director. "We are glad to have her on the World Championship coaching staff and we are confident that she will help guide American open water swimmers to success in Rome."

In 2007, Vogt coached American open water swimmers to two gold medals and one silver medal at the Pan American Games in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. She also was the head open water coach at the 2006 Pan Pacific Open Water Championships, where she guided U.S. swimmers to wins in the 5K and 10K open water events.

Vogt is currently in her first year as an assistant men's and women's swim coach at USC. Prior to joining the USC coaching staff, Vogt served as an assistant coach for three years at her Alma Mater, the University of North Carolina.

The 2009 World Championships team will be selected at the USA Swimming ConocoPhillips National Championships in Indianapolis, Ind., July 7-11, and at the 2009 USA Swimming 10k Open Water Championships in Ft. Myers, Fla., June 14.
