Meet of the Week, Preview: Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at Redlands

By Jason Marsteller

PHOENIX, Arizona, January 28. THIS weekend, the SwimmingWorldMagazine.com Meet of the Week series returns to normal after a few weekends in Piscataway, N.J. We are featuring the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at Redlands contest taking place in California.

Here is a quick preview of the match-up:

Date and Time: Saturday, January 31 at 10 a.m.
Location: Redlands, California
Facility: Thompson Aquatic Center

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Last Time Out:
The CMS Stags and Athenas traveled to Occidental College on Jan. 24 and defeated the Tigers by scores of 202-69 (men) and 184-97 (women). The teams competed in a non-traditional event schedule, with both 100's and 200's of each stroke completed, as well as both the 200 and 400 IM.

Looking forward with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps head coach Charles Griffiths:
We are looking forward to a great meet. It always brings out the best in both squads. The meet should be a great final tuneup prior to SCIAC's.

Redlands' Last Time Out:
Redlands claimed a pair of victories over La Verne on Jan. 24. The women claimed a 174-44 triumph, while the men cruised with a 177-64 conquest.

Looking forward with Redlands' head coach Leslie Whittemore:
The CMS-Redlands dual has been exciting for years now. With it being the last meet leading into the championship season, both teams are well-prepared to swim fast. We bring out the best in each other. It is a very healthy, positive rivalry. I respect what Coach Griffiths has done with his program. He continues to raise the level of expectation and competitive spirit year-in and year-out. I have no doubt that we will see some excellent swims on both sides of the deck this weekend
