Valparaiso vs. Illinois-Chicago Women

VALPARAISO, Indiana, January 24. RACHEL Majercik (Schaumburg, Ill./Conant H.S.) won three times on Saturday afternoon, but it was not quite enough for Valparaiso as the Crusaders dropped a 132-82 meet against UIC at the Athletics-Recreation Center pool.

Majercik started her day as a member of the victorious 200 medley relay. She teamed with Shaunna Dangremond (Tucson, Ariz./Sabino H.S.), Amy Andracki (Arlington Heights, Il./Prospect H.S.), and Jaclyn Krause (Rochester, Mich./Notre Dame Prep H.S.) to post a time of 1:51.43, the third fastest relay mark in school history.

Majercik then added a win in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.95 seconds to spark a one-two-three finish for the Brown and Gold. Krause was runner-up with a time of 25.07 seconds while Becky Crabtree (Mason, Ohio/Mason H.S.) was just behind the other two with a mark of 25.13 seconds.

A junior, Majercik finished her trio of triumphs with her fastest 100 free time of the season, winning the event in 54.19 seconds.

Dangremond finished second in a pair of individual events. Her time of 2:14.75 was the fifth quickest ever in school history while she also finished runner-up in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:02.92.

Grace Arnold (Glendora, Calif./Glendora H.S.) also earned a second place finish on the day, turning in the second fastest time in school history in the 1650 freestyle. She touched the wall in 17:56.09.

Andracki earned her own second place finish in the 100 breaststroke, finishing with a time of 1:10.45.

Valparaiso (1-7) returns to action next Friday in Macomb, Ill. against Western Illinois. The Crusaders will dive into the water for the first race at 5 p.m.
