PARIS, France, January 21. ACCORDING to an article by the AFP, France's Laure Manaudou has withdrawn from the sport of swimming for the time being.
Citing lack of desire, shoulder injury and severe headaches, Manaudou is leaving Europe to spend time in the United States, her father Jean-Luc told the AFP.
"Laure Manaudou has decided to end her season in order to take a break from top level swimming," her lawyer Didier Poulmaire said in a written statement as reported by the AFP. "Laure currently feels totally saturated and this has deprived her of the pleasure and desire to swim. Without this desire to swim, which drove her on to put together one of the finest records in international swimming, Laure no longer can produce the physical and mental qualities needed to achieve top performances."

January 21, 2009 How cool would it be for Laure to take a little trip to NBAC and have a chat with Michael Phelps. Ok, fantasy time, but Laure wearing the NBAC cap at U.S. Nationals?!? Someone stop me now! LOL Submitted by: paddles

January 21, 2009 Always a story to go along with Laure Manaudou. I wouldn't doubt it influenced at least a little by a boy haha.
Anyhow I expect she won't be gone for long and hope to see her back racing! If she finds the swimmer within again, I'd like to see more of her other events! Submitted by: elixirnova
January 22, 2009 She can come swim with my team if she wishes =) Submitted by: XXXXXXXJOSH
January 22, 2009 Coming to the States could be just what Laure needs to kick start her champions mentality and get back to being Submitted by: paddles
January 23, 2009 I agree paddles, swimming isn't the most fun to train for. I would imagine the variety of programs in the US could give her a new start and get her into it! Submitted by: elixirnova
January 23, 2009 I remember that the Aussie legend, Shane Gould, came to America to train back in 1973 hoping to regain her fire for training and competing. She was able to hold onto that flame for a while, winning some US national titles and breaking American records...but....the desire cooled and although a triple Olympic gold medalist from Munich 1972, Shane never realized her full potential by retiring at the ripe old age of 16! I hope that Laure gets her fire back because she definitely has not reached her full potential either. Submitted by: paddles
