Ous Mellouli Named Best Athlete in Tunisia -- December 29, 2008

TUNISIA, December 29. RECENTLY, Ous Mellouli was named the best athlete in Tunisia with 653 points during national voting.

The Olympic gold medalist in the 1500 freestyle, Mellouli bested the second-place finisher, Tae Kwon Do junior world champion Khaoula Ben Hamza's (319), by more than 300 points.


Mellouli became the first Tunisian to win the honor for the third time with victories coming in 2003 and 2004 as well.

Along with his Olympic gold, Mellouli finished 2008 with 35 FINA World Cup medals, eight African titles, six Mediterranean records along with 13 African and 33 Tunisian records.
