Hyman Chooses Stanford! -- March 5, 1997

Misty Hyman, the most highly recruited female high school swimmer in the nation, has decided to attend Stanford University next year. Hyman, 17, a senior at Shadow Mountain High School in Phoenix, set a short-course world record in the 100m butterfly last December (58.29 seconds). The global mark came just weeks after she set two individual national high school records and led off her school's medley relay team, which set a third national high school mark at the Arizona State High School Championships. Last month, Hyman won both the 100m and 200m butterfly at the U.S. National Championships in Buffalo, N.Y.
