Minnesota Girls High School State Championships

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, December 9. MORE than 15 meet records were set at the Minnesota Girls High School State Championships. Visitation (268), Monticello (197) and Sartell-St. Stephen (162) were the top teams at the Class A Championships. For Class AA, Stillwater took first with 290 points, followed by Edina (234.5) and Eden Prairie (198).

Class A Individual Results
The Class A State Championships opened with a Class A state record in the 200 medley relay set by Visitation. The quartet of Julie Steege, Olivia McNeely, Maddy DeMeules and Sophie Pilhofer received an AAA cut in the event, posting a 1:48.12.

Pilofer also had an individual win in the 50 freestyle (23.83). She earned her AAA cut by .09 seconds. McNeely set a Class A record in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.31).

Audrey Kumm of Hutchinson secured AAA cuts in the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly. In the 200 IM, she surpassed Sammi Husband's (Breck) 2007 record with a time of 2:04.14. Her 100 butterfly time (55.73) exceeded the 2004 Class A record set by Beth Kiczula (Red Wing).

Spring Lake Park's Tori Raihle won the diving competition with a score of 350.50.

Senior Meghan Weiss had individual wins in the 200 freestyle (1:52.04) and 100 freestyle. She improved her prior record in the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.17.

The 500 freestyle Class A record was set by Marisa Wood (Sartell-St. Stephen). She bested the 2001 record of Katie Win (Trinity) with a time of 5:02.05.

Sartell-St. Stephen and Visitation went head-to-head in the 200 freestyle relay. Sartell-St. Stephen's Tarin Anding, Kate Hellie, Molly Peichel and Wood defeated Visitation by merely .02 seconds (1:37.63).

Breck's Taylor Foster set a Class A record in the 100 backstroke (56.72). The previous record was held by Nikki Bakke.

Foster, Molly George, Steege and Weiss (Visitation) concluded the meet with a Class A record in the 400 freestyle relay (3:34.97). The eleven year old record was held by Hutchinson's J. Carlson, L. Guthmiller, K. Jensen and E. Endres.

Class AA Individual Results
Eden Prairie's 1997 200 medley relay state record was beat by Edina's Madelne Eden, Heather Laedtke, Annalise Colton and Mary Van Metre. The group posted a 1:45.49 in the event.

Freshman Rachel Bootsma (Eden Prairie) swam a 54.07 in the 100 backstroke to receive the state record.

Stillwater and Lakeville South tied with a 1:34.80 for the state record in the 200 freestyle relay. Betsy Galenti, Torie Buberl, Monica Radecke, Bowen, Melissa McMahon, Wendy Consoer, Natalie Herrild and Hailey Campbell contributed to the win.

The state records continued with Kiera Janzen's (Cretin-Derham Hall) 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle (4:51.22). Janzen surpassed Lauren Weis' prelim time of 1:48.59 to set the record in the 200 freestyle.

Hannah Bowen of Stillwater set state records in the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle with times of 22.73 and 49.78 respectively.

Bowen's teammate, Maggie Keefer, won the diving competition with a score of 493.55.

The 100 breaststroke record was set by Chaplin Park's Abby Duncan (1:01.30).

Kaela Anderson, J. Bowen, Galenti and H. Bowen (Stillwater) posted a 3:26.09 for the state record in the 400 freestyle relay.
