NCAA Div. I: Princeton Women Beat Cornell and Penn

ITHACA, N.Y., Nov. 18. THE Princeton women's swimming and diving team opened its season with wins against host school Cornell and Penn in a double-dual meet. The Tigers ran away with the meet, beating Cornell by 45 points and Penn by 31.

Princeton swept the 100 and 200 back, broke two Cornell pool records and finished one-two in several other events.

In the 200 medley, the relay team of Kate Conroy, Chrissy Holland, Molly Seto and Megan Donahue won the event with a time of one minute 47.07 seconds to set a new pool record. The relay team of Sangeeta Puri, Lauren Rossi, Michelle Nielson and Ann-Marie Casperite placed second (1:49.17). Casperite also won the 200 free (1:53.95).

The first Tiger sweep was in the 100 back with Puri in first place (58.62), Nielson in second (58.73) and Lisa Battaglia in third (1:00.12). Kate Conroy set a new pool record with her win in the 200 back (2:04.13). Freshmen Cara Goeller (2:07.00) and Claire Pearson (2:07.10) were second and third.

Valerie Kukla won the 1,000 free with a time of 10:21.80 and was followed by freshman Sarah Fraumann (10:22.00).

Cornell's C. Tawresy took the 100 breast in 1:07.52,
followed by Princeton freshmen Lauren Rossi (1:07.91) and Meredeth Saylor (1:08.29). Penn's R. Zappalorti took the 200 fly in 2:06.89, but Princeton's Seto (2:07.96) and Margaret Hirce (2:09.51) were right behind. Rossi won the 200 breaststroke (2:24.44), with Saylor second (2:25.83).

Katherine Mattison won the one-meter diving competition with a score of 274.50 followed by Danielle Stramandi in second place (266.75). It was just the opposite in the three-meter dive as Stramandi won the event (269.10) and Mattison placed second (269.05).

Penn swimmers won both freestyle sprints. L. Frescoe took the 50 in 24.26, while J. Anders won the 100 in 53.89.
