By Jason Marsteller

PHOENIX, Arizona, November 6. THIS weekend is stacked with several contests being part of the SwimmingWorldMagazine.com Meet of the Week program. One of the meets is Purdue at Notre Dame.

Here is a quick preview of the match-up:

Date and Time: Saturday, November 8 at 2 p.m.
Location: South Bend, Indiana
Facility: Rolfs Aquatic Center

Purdue's Last Time Out:
The men's team beat Miami (Ohio), 187-113, to begin the month. David Boudia (3m) and David Colturi (1m) provided a diving sweep, while Aaron Kogar won three titles in the 100 breast (56.74), 200 breast (2:03.61) and as part of the 400 medley relay (3:25.78). Chris Pfaff also took titles in the 100 back (51.30) and 200 back (1:54.52) as well as the 400 medley relay.

The Purdue women took losses to Louisville (197-102) and Miami (171-129) on Oct. 23. Lauren Roth was the only Purdue swimmer to win an event with a 2:03.99 in the 200 fly.

Looking forward with Purdue's head women's coach John Klinge:
Purdue-Notre Dame is always a fun meet! Two years ago they beat us in South Bend, and last year we were fortunate to win in West Lafayette. This weekend will be our first big test and to have to swim two 16 event formats on successive nights (at Northwestern Friday) will be a huge challenge for us! With Notre Dame being battle tested already with meets at USC and winning a close one against Big East rival Pittsburgh last week, we should have our hands full! We are looking forward to both meets!

Notre Dame's Last Time Out:
The men's team downed Pittsburgh, 152-148, in an incredibly tight contest. Michael Sullivan and John Lytle each won a pair of event titles. Sullivan touched first in the 1000 free (9:36.22) and 200 back (1:51.03), while Lytle captured wins in the 50 free (21.20) and 100 free (45.55).

The women's team, meanwhile, routed Pittsburgh, 223-77. Amywren Miller and Samantha Maxwell wound up with four titles each. Miller anchored the 200 medley relay of Lauren Parisi, Maxwell, Colleen Fotsch and Miller to a win in 1:43.89, while also winning the 50 free in 23.21 and 100 free in 51.39. She also leadoff the 400 free relay of Miller, Delia Cronin, Amy Prestinario and Megan Farrell to a win in 3:29.13.

Maxwell, on top of the relay victory, took the 100 breast (1:02.67), 200 breast (2:16.42) and 200 IM (2:06.15).

Looking forward with Notre Dame's head men's coach Tim Welsh:
Purdue is the first ranked team to come into Notre Dame this year. They are always competitive, and will be coming to us from a meet in Northwestern the night before. We've only beaten them once in modern memory. We have been improving, and will try to be ready. We are proud to have them come and race with us at Notre Dame.

Looking forward with Notre Dame's head women's coach Brian Barnes:
What's interesting about this meet schedule is that the team is faced with the assignment of having a hard week of practice, and then goes right into a meet. We did that during fall break, and we did that last week. We have probably had the hardest week of practice this week, and the team is responding well. This team is getting tougher by the day and I hope to see them stand up to the challenge of Purdue on Saturday.
