Lehigh vs. Colgate

HAMILTON, New York, November 1. ERICA Derlath (Garden City, N.Y.) won two events and broke two Lineberry Natatorium pool records to pace the Colgate women's swimming & diving team to a convincing 209-79 victory over visiting Patriot League rival Lehigh, Saturday afternoon. The Mountain Hawks downed the Raiders in men's competition 162-136.

Aside from the two pool records, between the men and women, the Raiders collected a combined 14 performances ranked in the all-time top 10 list at Colgate, as well as established 17 personal bests.

The Colgate women, now 2-0 overall, flexed their muscles by winning 14 of 16 events in the victory. Caren Guyett (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) was a four-time winner, while Caitlin Curran (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Emily Peck (Brocktondale, N.Y.) were triple winners for Colgate. Erin McGraw (Penfield, N.Y.), Ashley Bottger (Weston, Conn.) and Derlath all posted double wins for the Raiders.

In her home debut, Derlath won the 1650 free by 26 seconds and established a new pool record. The freshman touched with a time of 17:09.14, breaking the former mark of 17:16.93 set by former Lehigh standout Lauren Ayers in 2001. Derlath's split of 10:22.96 in the first 1,000 yards of the race also set the pool record, formerly held by Guyett of 10:24.32, which was set in the 2007-08 campaign. Both times rank second on the all-time charts in their respective events. Derlath closed her meet by copping the 200 back with a winning time of 2:09.88, the seventh fastest time in the program's history.

Individually, Curran won both of her events – the 100 breast (1:09.15) and 200 IM (2:16.34) with personal-best times, while Guyett posted two wins in the 100 (58.17) and 200 fly (2:07.29), also in personal best efforts. Peck won the 50 free (24.25) by recording a personal best and the sixth fastest time in the program's history.

Other winners include McGraw in the 200 free; Sarah Button (Mendham, N.J.) in the 100 back; Bottger in the 100 free; Alaina Sullivan (Shaker Heights, Ohio) in the 200 breast, and Jenna Daly (Garden City, N.Y.) in the 500 free.

Both Colgate relays won their respective events as well. McGraw, Curran, Guyett, and Peck teamed to win the 200 medley relay, while Guyett, Peck, Bottger, and Emily Murphy (Syracuse, N.Y.) swam the sixth fastest time in the 400 free relay winning the race with a 3:29.63.

The Colgate men captured seven victories against Lehigh, two each from Devon Healy (New Canaan, Conn.), Tucker Gniewek (Mountain Lakes, N.J.), and Joe McGovern (Stowe, Vt.).

Healy had three personal bests on the afternoon. The sophomore won the 500 (4:49.52) and 1650 (16:39.64) and then placed second in the 200 IM (1:58.67).

McGovern remained undefeated in both the one and three-meter diving events. The sophomore, who doubled in the season opener at Syracuse, posted a 232.72 in the one-meter and then returned to 221.18 in the three-meter event.

Gniewek swam a winning 21.72 in the 50 free and then teamed with Teddy Perley (Harrison, N.Y.), Tyler Coolman (Fort Collins, Colo.), and George Bennitt (West Chester, Pa.) to win the opening event – the 200 medley relay (1:37.59).

Freshman Costas Hadjipateras (New Canaan, Conn.) posted the other victory for the Raiders by swimming the eighth time at Colgate in the 200 fly (1:55.57).

In addition to Hadjipateras' second in the 100 fly (53.04), the Raiders posted five other second place efforts. Patrick White (Stamford, Conn.) was second in the 200 free (1:46.69); Peter Coulson (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was second in the 100 back (55.33); Perley swam a 1:01.35 to finish second in the 100 breast; Trevor Healy (New Canaan, Conn.) was second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:14.85. The foursome of Perley, White, Hadjipateras, and Bennitt combined for a 3:13.88 in a second place effort in the 400 free relay.

The Raiders return to action next Saturday as they host Boston University. The meet is set to start at 1 p.m. at Linesberry Natatorium.
