Kiefer Fall Classic

KENOSHA, Wisconsin, November 1. LEWIS had four swimmers win two or more races at the Kiefer Fall Classic on the campus of Carthage College on Saturday afternoon. On the day, the Lewis women finished second among four schools with 451 points. The Lewis men finished second among three teams with 608 points.

Sophomore Kevin Coates won the 500 free (4:44.65) and 1000 free (9:46.15). Juniors Aaron Olszeski and Jason Ament finished second and third in both races to make it a Lewis sweep of the top three.

"Our distance men did well today. They continue to define our program right now," head coach Steve Thompson said. "Obviously Kevin won both, but Jason has been pushing him at practice and Aaron is coming on strong."

Aaron's brother, junior Adam Olszeski, recorded three victories. He won the 200 back (1:56.80) by almost four seconds and took the 200 free (1:45.90). He capped his day with a 54.20 winning performance in the 100 back.

Senior Luke Pavlakovich won the 100 breast (1:02.06). The Flyers' 200 medley relay team of junior Ryan Harrison, Pavlakovich freshman John Sommer and Ament won by .2 of a second with a time of 1:40.64.

On the women's side sophomores Allie Henges and Kayla Muir each won two races. Henges took home titles in the 500 free (5:21.84) and 200 free (1:58.37). Muir won the 100 back (1:01.27) and 200 back (2:14.03).

"Kayla went faster today than she did at conference last year. She's really pushing it this year," Thompson said."

Sophomore Carrie Borgstede won the 1000 free by more than five seconds with a time of 11:28.53.

"Obviously the guys are still stronger than the ladies. Especially with Deirdre (Mikolajcik) out we are asking some of the freshmen to step up," Thompson said. "Rebecca Rogers had another good meet and is showing potential."

Rogers finished second in the 500 free (5:31.20) and third in the 200 back (2:17.39).

"We won a lot of races today but just don't have the depth to match Carthage swimmer for swimmer," Thompson said. "I think it was a good indicator of where we are and we now have two weeks till the Grand Prix."

The USA Swimming/Toyota Grand Prix is Nov. 14-16
