NCAA Div. I: Tarheels Sweep Blue Devils

CHAPEL HILL, N.C., November 7. THE University of North Carolina's men's and women's swimming and diving teams surged to easy dual meet victories over the Duke Blue Devils Tuesday evening at Koury Natatorium. The Tar Heel women defeated their Blue Devil counterparts 157-85, while the UNC men were victorious over Duke by a 184-58 score.

The win earned UNC one point in the Carlyle Cup standings, the all-sports trophy which North Carolina and Duke are vying for during the 1999-2000 school year. North Carolina now leads the Carlyle Cup standings by a score of 13-1.

The North Carolina women have now won three successive dual matches and are 3-1 on the season. The Tar Heels are 1-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Blue Devil women are now 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the ACC.

The Carolina men have bounced back from a season-opening loss to post two successive victories. The Tar Heels are 1-0 in the ACC. Duke's men are 1-1 overall, 0-1 in the ACC.
