UC-Davis vs. UC-Santa Cruz

SANTA CRUZ, California, October 25. THE UC Davis men's and women's swimming and diving teams defeated UC Santa Cruz in a dual meet at the East Fieldhouse Swimming Pool on Saturday afternoon. The Aggie men won by a score of 180-127 while the women's team posted a 179-81 victory. It marked the first time this season the Aggie divers have been in action.

The women's team had three multiple event winners in juniors Heidi Kucera and Jen Cadmus and senior Kendra Hughes. On the men's side of things, sophomores Kyle Anderson and B.J. Scoggan and junior Scott Weltz each won multiple events as well.

The women won the first nine races and 11 of 12 to exhibition the final three events. Kucera won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:23.37) and 200 freestyle (1:55.77) while also swimming the second leg on the winning 200 medley relay team. She teamed with seniors Emily Medved and Mary Struempf and sophomore Amanda Holman in the 200 medley to go 1:48.58.

Cadmus took first-place honors in the 200 butterfly (2:14.02) and owned the top time in the 100 fly (59.35) as an exhibition swimmer. Hughes won both diving events as she scored 214.3 on the 1-meter board and 223.05 on the high board.

Other event winners for the women were sophomore Tyler Ring in the 1,000 free (10:41.26), freshman Kayleigh Foley in the 50 free (24..49), sophomore Rebecca Koch in the 100 backstroke (1:01.49), Struempf in the 100 breast (1:07.05), sophomore Linda Hermann in the 100 free (53.72), junior Kathryn Jovino in the 500 free (5:15.00) and freshman Jenah Dawson in the 200 individual medley (2:13.44).

The men's team won nine events and swam exhibition in the final three events. Weltz was a winner in the 200 fly at 1:51.69 and had the top time as an exhibition swimmer in the 100 fly (50.98). Scoggan claimed the top spot in the 200 free in 1:47.95 and also had a top exhibition swim in the 200 IM (1:59.28). Anderson won the 200 breast (2:11.32) and 100 breast (1:00.15).

Other event winners on the men's side were sophomore Matt Herman in the 1,000 free (9:44.23), freshman Kevin Parizi in the 100 back (54.58), freshman Alex Daneke in the 200 back (1:55.53), sophomore Adam Borchard in the 500 free (4:38.47).

Senior diver Michael Androus was the top Aggie finisher in the 1M diving while sophomore Paul Navo was the top Aggie on the low board. Both finished third and second, respectively.

The Aggie women's swimming team returns to action next Saturday when they travel up to Reno, Nev. for a double dual with Nevada and Washington State at 11:30 a.m.
