Kansas vs. Northern Arizona

FLAGSTAFF, Arizona. October 18. THE Kansas swimming and diving team set nine Wall Aquatic Center pool records and earned victories in all 16 events as the Jayhawks cruised to a 197-107 victory over Northern Arizona in a non-conference dual meet.

The Jayhawks, who knocked off nationally ranked Arizona State Friday evening, improve to 2-0 in their first two dual meets this season. The Lumberjacks fall to 2-3.

Individually, senior Maria Mayrovich won three events and swam the first leg of KU's record-setting 200 freestyle relay event, scoring 38 of KU's 197 points. Mayrovich set pool records in the 50 freestyle (26.38) and 100 freestyle (57.35) and also captured a first-place finish in the 200 free with a time of 2:05.84. For the weekend, Mayrovich won five events individually and also participated in a first-place relay event.

KU's Danielle Hermann, Iuliia Kuzhil, Emily Lanteigne and Ashley Leidigh each won two individual events and swam parts of the 200 freestyle and 200 medley relays.

Herrmann won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:12.03 and the 200 breaststroke at 2:38.29. She also completed a successful weekend, which saw her win three individual events.

Kuzhil, a sophomore from Cherkasey, Ukraine, won her first two events as a Jayhawk. She took home first place finishes in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke events, setting a pool record in the 100-yard event with a time of 1:04.82.

Lanteigne earned wins in both of the distance freestyle events, posting a time of 9:25.52 in the 800 free and 4:31.03 in the 400 free. Leidigh captured first in the two butterfly events, posting pool records with times of 2:19.76 in the 200 fly and 1:03.82 in the 100 fly.

Sophomore Joy Bunting rounded out KU's event winning swimmers with a first-place finish in the 200-yard IM. Bunting posted her win with a time of 2:23.41.

In addition to the 14 individual swimming event victories, the Jayhawks also posted wins in both diving events. Junior Meghan Proehl won the 1-meter event with a score of 271.58, while sophomore Erin Mertz scored a 288.68 off a 3-meter board to complete KU's sweep.
