Davidson vs. East Carolina

GREENVILLE, North Carolina. October 17. THE East Carolina men and women's swimming and diving team swept a dual meet from Davidson at Minges Aquatic Center. The men's squad posted a 176-113 win to improve to 2-1 on the season, while the women's team remained unbeaten (4-0) with a decisive 176-113 victory.

"This was a very complete and dominating performance by both of our teams," said Pirate head coach Rick Kobe. "I'm very pleased with the how hard and fast our kids came out and swam tonight."

The ECU women placed first in 11 of 16 events beginning with the 200-yard medley relay team of freshmen Kelsey Brosi and Jessica Brinkley, senior Amanda Duncan and sophomore Jenna Stewart, who won the race with a time of 1:47.87.

The Pirates claimed the top three spots in the 1000-yard freestyle with freshman Caitlin Marsilli placing first (10:17.05), senior Meghan Brosi in second (10:29.17) and freshman Brittany Radcliffe in third (10:30.61). Radcliffe touched first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:03.78) with the elder Brosi placing third (5:08.60).

In addition to helping the 200-yard medley relay team earn a first place finish, Kelsey Brosi earned two individual first place finishes in the 100 (59.21) and 200-yard backstroke (2:06.37). Senior Alli Miller (1:0.08) and Kelly Swain (1:02.22) helped complete the sweep of the top three spots in the 200-yard backstroke.

The Pirates also swept through the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke events with Brinkley taking first place in each event. She beat out teammate Courtney Harris by less than a second to win the 100 (1:08.14) and then touched a second sooner than classmate Ashley Mullen to win the 200 (2:29.91).

The butterfly events belonged to Duncan, who won both the 100 and 200 races for a second consecutive meet. She swam the 200 (2:04.31) nearly six seconds faster than her second place opponent and the 100 (56.00) almost two seconds faster. Junior Rachel Blue won the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.39)

On the diving side for the women, freshman Katie Yamamoto won the 1-meter with 243.59 points to narrowly defeat fellow freshman Meghan Coyne (243.00). With the meet victory already secured, the 3-meter dive was scored as an exhibition for the Pirates.

The men's swim team won 10 events starting with the 200-yard medley relay team of sophomores Roman Sandler, Tommy Ryan, Andrew Stoker and junior Ailton Temotio. Temotio earned a first place finish in the 100 (46.36) and 200-yard freestyle (1:43.67) as well. Ryan claimed the victory in the 200 breaststroke (2:07.26) and Stoker captured first place in the 100-yard butterfly (51.75).

The 1000-yard freestyle (9:29.82) belonged to sophomore Thiago Cavalcanti, who won the by an amazing 21 seconds. He also placed second in the 100-yard freestyle (47.49).

Freshman Travis Stauder won the 100-yard breaststroke (59.18) and senior Adam Papendick claimed first place in the 50-yard freestyle (21.37). Junior Blake Briese was also a winner in the 500-yard freestyle (4:40.90)
