Kalyn Keller’s Open Water World Championships Diary

HONOLULU, Nov. 3. ALOHA!

One more day until we have to cheer for 6 hours straight for the 25Kers! I better stop talking so I have a voice… but according to some people,it is impossible. Mark Leonard and Charlie Fry were going to give me $10 if I didn't talk for 10 minutes, but they were tourturing me with a marker, so I only made it to 9:50. Oh well.

Since it was our day off today, we got to go to the bay and snorkle! It was awesome. We walked around the cliffs about one mile and we came to this thing called "the tolit bowl." At first I was a little chicken, but then we all got in and did it. It is a big hole that has rocks all around it. At the bottom, there is a tunnel that goes out into the ocean. So when the water comes in, it goes through the tunnel and spits you out of the hole back on top of the rocks. Then the water goes out and you go down again. Sometimes the water level gets really high and you get thrown out!

After that, some of us went to the Pearl Harbor memorial. It was quite a sight, and sobering to think of all the sailors who were killed in 1941.

Gotta rest up for the surfing tomorrow, taught just by Matt and Ben Hanley! (or so they say)
