Auburn Announces Coaching Staff Changes

AUBURN, Alabama, October 2. FORMER Auburn swimmer Richard Long and long-time staff member Tom Healey will assume new roles with the Auburn swimming and diving team, head coach Richard Quick announced Wednesday.

Long enters his third season on the Auburn staff after spending last season as the team videographer and the previous year as a volunteer assistant coach. He now moves to the assistant coach position left vacant by Brian Barnes after he left to take the women's head coach position at Notre Dame.

"Richard Long did a fantastic job for us last season as our team videographer and immediately stepped up to fill the role that Brian Barnes left when he went to Notre Dame," said Quick. "Richard is a fine young coach, and if he continues to show the initiative and determination he had this last season, he will go on to be a very successful coach in this program."

As the team's videographer, Long focused on gathering underwater and above-water video of meets and practices for the coaching staff to use in stroke analysis and evaluation.

"Richard has a great swimming mind and he was able to implement a very good video program for the staff to use last season and I attribute a lot of our success to the work he did," said Quick.

Also stepping into a new position is Healey, who has worked in a variety of positions with the Auburn swimming and diving teams since 1985. He will take of the director of swimming operations position left vacant by Dennis Pursley after he took the national team head coach position with Great Britain Swimming.

"Tom has been associated with the Auburn program for more than 20 years," said Quick. "He worked as an assistant to Dennis Pursley last season, helping him learn the ins and outs of the job in his first year, and should have a seamless transition into this new role."

Healey joined the Auburn staff in 1985 as an assistant coach and has since held various positions with the team, most recently taking in the role of alumni coordinator. He has also been very involved with the Auburn Aquatics club team, working as a meet director, assistant coach and head coach.

"Tom has built some great relationships among both the Auburn Athletics staff and with our team and alumni and those relationships, along with his background and experience, will help him to be very successful in this important role with the team," said Quick.

Special thanks to Auburn for contributing this report.
