Olympian Christina Loukas Wins 1-Meter Title at Kaiser Permanente National Championships

PASADENA, California, July 25. OLYMPIAN Christina Loukas (Riverwoods, Ill.) will head to Beijing with another national title to her name, having successfully defended her women's 1-meter title at the Kaiser Permanente National Diving Championships Thursday at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center.

Loukas scored 264.80 points to edge her synchronized diving partner Amanda Miller (Centreville, Va.), who took second with 259.65 points. Loukas also won the event at last year's Kaiser Permanente nationals. Thirteen-year-old Kassidy Cook (The Woodlands, Texas) scored 244.30 points for third.

All three of them will also compete in Saturday's finals on women's 3-meter, the event Loukas will compete on in Beijing.

In Thursday's men's 3-meter competition, Kristian Ipsen (Clayton, Calif.) scored 436.45 points to dominate the semifinals and easily advance to Sunday's finals. Terry Horner (Longwood, Fla.), who won the men's 1-meter title Wednesday, finished second with 396.00 points, with Matt Cooper (Bethesda, Md.) a close third at 395.25. The top 12 divers in the semifinals move on to the finals. The Olympic team members automatically advanced to the finals. Troy Dumais (Ventura, Calif.) is expected to compete, although Chris Colwill (Brandon, Fla.) likely will dive only in Sunday's men's 3-meter synchro finals with teammate Jevon Tarantino (Boca Raton, Fla.).

The Kaiser Permanente National Diving Championships run through Sunday, July 27. Friday's competition begins at noon and features men's and women's 10-meter quarterfinals and semifinals.
