USA Swimming Sectionals, Brown Deer: Pair of Meet Records Tumble

BROWN DEER, Wisconsin, July 19. A pair of meet records took a fall during the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Brown Deer tonight.

Katharine Anton, 14, of Cedar Rapids began the night by smashing the meet record in the women's 200 back. She touched in 2:15.95, downing the 2:19.13 set by Katie Wind last year. Andrea Hanson of Minnesota placed second in 2:19.74, while Alex Van Oost, 17, of Academy Bullets earned third in 2:20.96.

Emma Goral, 15, of Lake Country edged the meet record in the women's 100 fly with a time of 1:01.57. That time clipped the 1:01.60 set by Olivia Scott in 2007. Annalise Colton, 17, of Edina touched second in 1:02.72, while Sophie Borchers of Wildkit took third in 1:03.03.

Paul Young, 16, of Black Dog won the men's 200 back in 2:07.19, while Nico Zebley of Minnesota claimed second in 2:09.20. Brian Kiel, 16, of Med-City finished just behind in 2:09.40.

Kiera Janzen, 15, of Star led her club's 1-2 finish in the women's 400 free with a time of 4:19.31. Teammate Lauren Weis, 17, placed second in 4:23.64, while Danielle Beckwith of Badger touched third in 4:24.68.

Conor Dwyer of Lake Forest cruised in the men's 400 free with a time of 4:01.31, while Luke Bushman, 17, of Green Bay (4:05.19) and Zebley (4:06.01) rounded out the top three.

Abby Duncan, 15, of Aquajet captured the women's 100 breast in 1:12.13, while Emily Schwabe, 16, of Waukesha took second in 1:12.93. Emily Fogle, 16, of Barrington placed third in 1:13.82.

In a close contest, Rob Schnitzler of Minnesota touched out Kevin Zakrzewski of Patriot, 1:04.15 to 1:04.21, in the men's 100 breast. Matt Elliott, 15, of Peoria Area clinched third in 1:05.64.

Jordan Diel of Pabst Farm snagged the men's 100 fly in 56.18, while Schroeder's Basehearts took second and third with Josh (56.71) and Kevin (56.81) finishing within .1 seconds of each other.

The 800 free relays closed the night. Badger's Jackie Powell, Beckwith, Aja Van Hout and Kelly Winckler won the women's title in 8:34.31. Lake Forest's Dwyer, Richard Salhus, Mitch Stoehr and Duncan Partridge snared the men's crown in 7:45.62.
