USA Swimming Sectionals, Fort Lauderdale: Gideon Louw Sets 50 Free Meet Record

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, July 19. GIDEON Louw of Indian River edged the meet record in the men's 50 free at the USA Swimming Sectional held in Fort Lauderdale.

Louw clocked a time of 22.49 in the splash-and-dash to erase the 22.58 set by Bryan Lundquist in March. Jacinto Ayala of Delfines took second in 23.13, while Charles Turner wrapped up third in 23.27.

Stephanie Proud of Gator Swim Club overtook Erin Volcan of Coral Springs, 1:04.49 to 1:04.98, to win the women's 100 back. Alex Forrester, 16, of Bluefish placed third in 1:05.03.

David Russell of Bluefish claimed the men's 100 back in 56.59, while Jarryd Botha of Area Tallahassee (57.63) and Chris Rogers of Bluefish (58.62) rounded out the top three.

Bluefish won again, this time when Laura Sogar, 17, hit the wall in 2:18.48 in the women's 200 IM. Lindsey McKnight, 14, of Coral Springs took second in 2:19.82, while Angelina Ballatore of Gator finished third in 2:20.44.

Bradley Ally of Pine Crest captured the men's 200 IM in 2:05.74, while Omar Pinzon of Gator (2:07.18) and James Walsh of Tidewater (2:07.36) earned second and third.

Arlene Semeco of Coral Springs snared the women's 50 free in 25.74 with Vanessa Garcia of Puerto Rico (26.10) and Natasha Moodie, 17, of the Comets (26.50) making up the podium.

The middle distance 400 frees were next. Lauren Driscoll, 14, of Fort Lauderdale surfaced with the win in the women's race in 4:19.93. Stephanie Eisenring, 17, of Pine Crest finished second in 4:19.97, while Madison Parker of Gator placed third in 4:21.27.

Shaune Fraser of Pine Crest picked up the men's title in 3:57.51 with Israel Murat (4:00.90) and Ryan Arabejo of The Bolles School (4:02.27) taking second and third.
