USA Swimming Sectionals, Bloomington: Four Meet Records Tumble

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana, July 17. A quartet of meet records went by the wayside in the second night of swimming at the USA Swimming Sectionals held on the campus of Indiana University.

Jacy Dyer of Greater Toledo opened the second night of swimming with a meet record in the women's 200 free. She touched in 2:03.85 to clip the 2:03.90 set by Jillian Altenburger in March. Amanda Smith of the Mason Manta Rays placed second in 2:05.50, while Eva Lehtonen of Oakland Live Y'ers finished third in 2:05.72.

Peter Jameson of Longhorn won the men's 200 free in 1:51.94, while Sergiy Fesenko of Indiana University took second in 1:52.09. Morgan Priestley of Birmingham clinched third in 1:52.24.

Jenny Connolly of Boilermaker touched out Darcy Fishback, 17, of Upper Arlington, 1:01.41 to 1:01.74, in the women's 100 fly, while Sarah Tanner of the Cincinnati Marlins took third in 1:02.83.

The men's 100 fly featured a pair of swimmers under the meet record of 54.80 set by Nick Walkotten in 2005. Andrew Langenfeld of Boilermaker won in 54.08, while Marcus Poteete of Capital Area finished second in 54.66. Mathew O'Brien wound up third in 55.67.

Smith walked away with the women's 400 IM in 4:58.92, while Dyer took second in 4:59.43 as a reversal of the women's 200 free. Kristy Fulcher, 16, of Upper Arlington wrapped up third in 4:59.53.

Eric Nilsson of Wildcat Aquatics won the men's 400 IM in 4:30.46, while Andre Koop of Boilermaker placed second in 4:36.33. Bobby Jenrow of Oakland Live Y'ers finished third in 4:36.33.

Both 800 freestyle relays featured meet standards. The ME Lyons team of Casey Ridge, Molly Hazelbaker, Julia Comodeca and Anita Beck clocked a time of 8:33.58 to beat the former women's record of 8:34.26 set by Lake Erie Silver Dolphins in 2002.

Meanwhile, the Oakland Live Y'ers foursome of Alex Tyler, Colby Ward, Shane Lichtenberg and Jan Hanulik demolished the men's standard of 7:48.54 set by Washington Township in 2003 when the OLY squad finished in 7:41.27.
