U.S. Olympic Trials: Ben Hesen Drops American Record in Time Trials Again

OMAHA, Nebraska, July 5. BEN Hesen shaved a hundredth from his American record in the 50 back during time trials at the U.S. Olympic Trials today.

After going 24.71 yesterday during trials, Hesen clocked a 24.70 during a 50-meter back split today. He took down Randall Bal's previous national standard of 24.84 set at the 2007 Paris Open yesterday.

He stands behind only Liam Tancock's world record of 24.47 set in April this year.

Hesen went on to finish third in the 100 back swim with a time of 1:14.50.

Joel Elber won the race in 58.72, while Cody Miller placed second in 1:00.55.
