BARBADOS (BAR)
May 20–Martyn Forde swam to a new Barbados Record in the men's 50 free (23.07) at the Santa Clara International meet in the USA, May 15-18. With the time, Forde reached the Olympic "B" qualifying standard.

BOLIVIA (BOL)
May 21–The Bolivian Swimming Federation is reportedly petitioning FINA to change their swimmer invited to compete at the 2008 Olympics. FINA recently invited Katherine Moreno to participate at the Games, based off her performance at the 2007 Worlds. FEBONA, however, would like to move this invitation to Karen Tórrez, based on her recent performances at last month's Latin Cup in San Marino where she set 10 Bolivian Records.

BRAZIL (BRA)
May 12–Results from the 2008 Brazilian Swimming Nationals, the Maria Lenk Trophy, are available via the link. The meet was held May 6-11 in Rio de Janeiro. Following the meet, Brazil's swimming teams for the 2008 Olympics (19) and 2008 Youth Worlds (21) were announced.

CANADA (CAN)
May 7–Canada will send a 24-swimmer team to the 2008 Youth Worlds in Monterrey, Mexico, July 8-13. Team members are: Hassaan Abdel-Khalik, Hillary Bell, Michael Cai, Genevieve Cantin, Vanessa Charron, Kendra Chernoff, Zack Chetrat, Alexandra Gabor, Barbara Jardin, Daniel Jensen, Scott Jessett, Ameison King, Bogdan Knezevic, Curtis Lutsch, Dominique Massie-Martel, James McQuade, Amanda Reason, Hannah Riordan, Chelsey Salli, Paige Schultz, Lindsay Seemann, Tess Simpson, Zach Summerhayes and Matthew Swanston. Swim Canada has also announced a 41-swimmer team the 2008 Tri-Nations Cup for its tri-meet versus France and Great Britain in August: the Tri-Nations Cup.

May 14–A recap of the 2008 Canadian National Synchro Championships, which included the selection of Canada's Junior National team can be found at the link. The championships were May 7-11 in Sherbrooke, Québec. Full results are available online here.

May 20–Results from the 2008 Canadian Masters Swimming Championship, held May 16-19 in Québec City, Québec are available at the link.

May 21–Synchro Canada has named 9 athletes as Canada's 2008 Olympic team. Team members are: Marie-Pier Boudreau-Gagnon, Jessika Dubuc, Marie-Pierre Gagne, Dominika Kopcik, Eve Lamoureux, Tracy Little, Elise Marcotte, Isabelle Rampling and Jennifer Song.

May 24–Synchro Canada will host a FINA Development Clinic for synchronized swimming coaches and judges, August 31-September 3, 2008, in Calgary, Alberta. Registration form is due by June 30, 2008.

COLOMBIA (COL)
May 22–To date, 3 Colombian swimmers and 3 divers have qualified 2008 Olympics. The swimmers are Camilo Becerra, Carolina Colorado, and Omar Pinzón; divers are Diana Pineda, Victor Ortega and Juan Guillermo Urán Salazar.

MEXICO (MEX)
May 8–Results from the swimming portion of Mexico's 2008 National Olympiad have been posted online. Results from the Age Group and Elite portions of the event are available at the link. Both the Elite Swimming (April 27-May 1) and Age Group Swimmer (May 3-7) were held in Monterrey, Nuevo León. The Elite portion also served as Mexico's Olympic and Youth Worlds trials.

May 23–The Mexican Swimming Federation has announced a 36-swimmer team for the 2008 Youth Worlds, which Mexico will host in Monterrey, July 8-15, as well as team members for the 2008 North America Challenge Cup in August and the swimming portion of June's CAMEX Championships in San José, Costa Rica. USA (USA)
May 5––Results from the 2008 USMS Short Course (25 yds) Masters Nationals can be found online at the link. The meet was held May 1-4 in Austin, Texas.

May 8–The USA finished 4th in the overall team standings at the 2008 Open Water World Championships in Seville, Spain, May 3-8. The USA was lead by medal finishes by Chloe Sutton in the women's 5K (third) and Mark Warkentin in the men's 25K (second).

VENEZUELA (VEN)
May 22–The Venezuelan Swimming Federation, Federación Venezolana de
Desportes Acuáticos (FEVEDA), has announced an 11-swimmer team (4 girls, 7 boys) for this
summer's Youth Worlds, in Monterrey, Mexico. Team members are: Crox Acuña, Elimar Barrios, Eliana Barrios, Jonny Castillo, Miguel Ferreira, Gabriel Huen, Rubén Machado, Octavio Marcano, José Olivar, Andreína Pinto and Erika Torrellas,

OTHER
Apr.30–LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND–FINA has announced the drug testing statistics from the 2008 Short Course Worlds held April 9-13 in Manchester, UK. 174 total tests were administered, 60 of which also test for EPO. In total, 116 athletes from 29 countries were test; there were no positive
results.

May 4–Five swimmers from the Americas qualified for the 2008 Olympics 10K swim at the 2008 Open Water World Championships, May 3-8 in Seville, Spain. The top-10 finishers in the men's and women's 10K races in Seville qualified for the Olympic 10K race, as well as the next fastest continental swimmer from a country without someone in the top-10. Olympic qualifiers were: Ana Marcela Cunha, Brazil (10th); Luis Escobar, Mexico (Americas men's qualifier); Poliana Okimoto, Brazil (6th); Andreina Pinto, Venezuela (Americas women's qualifier); and Mark Warkentin, USA (7th).

May 7–FINA announced the schedules for the 2009 FINA open water circuits. The 2009 10K series will feature 14 races, with 5 in the Americas (Brazil, Canada, Mexico, and 2 in the USA); the 2009 Open Water series of races over 10K will feature 10 races, the first 3 in Argentina, the fourth race in Mexico and the eight and ninth races in Canada.

May 13–The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has posted online a Olympic and Paralympic issue of WADA's Play True magazine.

May 16–On May 13, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) denied FINA's appeal to hear the case of Brazilian's Rebeca Gusmão, sighting that FINA first needs to hear the case. CAS has recommended that the case be heard by FINA's Doping Panel. Following this, on May 17, FINA banned Gusmão for two years beginning November 2, 2007.

May 16–The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has posted the revised International Standards for both Testing (IST) and Therapeutic Use Exemptions (ISTUE). Both go into effect on January 1, 2009.
