Belgrade Victor: Serbian Record Book Wiped Out

BELGRADE, Serbia, June 23. OVER the weekend, the Serbians took a torch to their national record book at the Belgrade Victor meet.

Milorad Cavic clipped his national record in the men's 100 fly with a time of 51.65. His previous standard of 51.70 had stood since the 2007 World Championships. Cavic also won the 100 free in 49.52, off his record of 49.21 from February.

Miroslava Najdanovski downed a pair of Serbian records in the women's 50 and 100 free. In the shorter distance event, she touched in 25.87 to beat her 25.93 set a week ago in Kranj. In the 100, she stopped the clock in 55.88 to crush her old record of 56.57 set in March at the European Championships.

Nadja Higl wiped out two records of her own. First, she dropped her 100 breast record to 1:11.15, down from the 1:11.84 she set in Kranj. Meanwhile, she broke Marica Stazmester's 200 IM record of 2:24.87 from 1998 with a time of 2:24.21.

Strazmester, while losing her 200 IM standard, dipped under 1:04 for the first time to lower her 100 back standard to 1:03.98 from the 1:04.80 from the Mare Nostrum stop in Barcelona.

Andrea Basaraba knocked several seconds from her 800 free national standard of 9:15.48 set in 2007, this time she went 9:08.15 to win the event in Belgrade. She also walked away with the 200 back title in 2:22.61.

Milica Ostojic clipped her national record in the 200 free of 2:05.91 from March with an even swifter time of 2:05.77, while Caba Siladji erased Mladen Tepavcevic's 100 breast record of 1:02.69 from 2002 with a time of 1:02.53.
