John Hargis to Return to Penn State as Head Coach

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pennsylvania, June 23. JOHN Hargis, who has served as the head swimming coach at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock (UALR) the past two seasons, will be named Penn State's next head coach later today. He replaces Bill Dorenkott, the man he had previously served under as an assistant coach prior to joining UALR.

Hargis will be leaving his hometown of Little Rock, where he has been the president of the Little Rock Arkansas Dolphins swim club as well as UALR's head coach.

While at Penn State, Hargis helped the Penn State women to the 2005 Big Ten Championship after working at the University of Nevada.

Hargis is a member of the Arkansas Swimming Hall of Fame based on his 1996 Olympic run in which he was a member of the gold-medal winning 400 medley relay. Collegiately, Hargis competed at Auburn University where he won the 100 fly Southeastern Conference title three times and earned 12 All-American honors.
