Sheila Taormina Earns Historic USA Pentathlon Olympic Roster Spot

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado, June 12. IN the past few days, USA Pentathlon named Sheila Taormina, Margaux Isaksen and Eli Bremer have been named to the 2008 Beijing Olympic roster for the modern pentathlon.

The selection for Taormina is historic as she becomes the only woman to ever qualify for the Olympic Games in three different sports. She first became an Olympian as a swimmer in 1996 before becoming a triathlete and making the 2000 and 2004 teams.

In 1996, she won a gold medal as part of the U.S. 800 freestyle relay in Atlanta, while taking sixth and 23rd in the 2000 and 2004 triathlons, respectively.

She competed collegiately at the University of Georgia, where she was an All-American all four years and also won the Southeastern Conference crown in the 400 IM her final year of eligibility. She graduated from Georgia in 1992.
