Several Masters World Records Fall at Texas Senior Circuit -- June 11, 2008

AUSTIN, Texas, June 11. WHILE the Texas Pros were lighting up the pool at the Texas Senior Circuit this past weekend, a few Masters swimmers were taking dead aim at some world records in the men's 45-49 age group.

Ande Rasmussen, 45, first broke Steve Wood's 2007 standard of 28.60 set in the 50 back with a split time of 28.24 during his 200 back. Three hours later, Wood, 48, lowered the record again with a preliminary time of 28.05. He later clocked a time of 28.08 during finals. Rasmussen also posted a split time of 28.14 during his 100 back swim on Sunday.

Wood crushed another of his 2007 records with a time of 1:00.13 in the 100 back after lowering his old record with a 1:00.70 during prelims. Those times smashed his previous record of 1:01.68.

Wood made it a record trifecta with a time of 2:18.44 in the 200 back. That swim clipped Wieslaw Musial's 2003 record of 2:18.61.

David Guthrie, 47, took down the 100 breast world record with a time of 1:08.58 during prelims, beating Richard Schroeder's 1:08.92 from 2006. Guthrie went on to clock a time of 1:08.67 during finals, also under the former record.

Guthrie then lowered his own record in the 200 breast with a time of 2:30.44, breaking his 2006 standard of 2:31.42.
