Dutch Nationals: Femke Heemskerk Sets Dutch Record in Women’s 200 IM

EINDHOVEN, Netherlands, June 6. WITH the vaunted Dutch sprinters on display at the Dutch Nationals held in Eindhoven, Femke Heemskerk snuck in a national record in the women's 200 IM at the event during evening preliminary competition.

Heemskerk clocked a time of 2:15.52 to surpass the 14-year-old record of Minouche Smit set in 1996 with a 2:15.73 while competing in Drachten.

Other top names at the meet included Pieter van den Hoogenband. In the 50 free, van den Hoogenband clocked a time of 22.48 to lead qualifying over Ireland's Barry Murphy (22.79).

Aishling Cooney of Swim Ireland posted a meet record time of 2:14.59 in the women's 200 back, while teammate Melanie Nocher qualified second in 2:14.76. Additionally, Marleen Veldhuis broke the meet record in the women's 50 free with a time of 24.42. Hinkelien Schreuder (25.28) and Ranomi Kromowidjojo (25.35) also qualified 2-3 in the event.
