John Dussliere, Bill Rose, Paul Asmuth Named to U.S. Olympic Coaching Staff for Open Water

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado, June 4. TOP U.S. open water swimmers Mark Warkentin and Chloe Sutton are the first two swimmers to be named to the 2008 U.S. Olympic swim team. Warkentin and Sutton will compete in the 10K marathon swimming event in Beijing, which marks the event's first-ever appearance in Olympic competition.

In addition, USA Swimming has added Santa Barbara Swim Club coach John Dussliere, Mission Viejo Navadores Head Coach Bill Rose, and Paul Asmuth to the U.S. Olympic swim team coaching staff. Dussliere will be the men's open water coach and Rose will be the women's open water coach. Paul Asmuth will serve as the Open Water Chief of the Mission. The three men will work directly with the U.S. men's and women's Olympic swim team head coaches Eddie Reese and Jack Bauerle.

Most recently, Coach Rose served as the head coach for the U.S. Team at the 2008 FINA Open Water World Championships in Seville, Spain. Coach Dussliere was the U.S. Team's head manager at the same event.

Warkentin qualified for an Olympic berth following his seventh place finish in the 10k event at the FINA Open Water World Championships on May 4 in Seville, Spain. Sutton qualified in the women's 10K Olympic event following her win at the 10K Olympic Open Water Test Event held in Beijing, China on May 31. Both the 28-year-old Warkentin and the 16-year-old Sutton will be competing in their first Olympics.

Following the U.S. Olympic Swim Trials in Omaha, Neb., June 29-July 6, Warkentin and Sutton will join the rest of the U.S. Olympic swim team at the team's training camp in Palo Alto, Calif. Both swimmers and the open water coaches will work with the entire U.S. Olympic swim team and coaching staff as they prepare for competition in Beijing. All members of the U.S. Olympic swim team are subject to final approval by the United States Olympic Committee.

The women's and men's 10K Olympic marathon swim will take place on Aug. 20 and 21 at the Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park in Beijing, China.
