Russian Nationals: Danila Izotov Breaks 16-Year-Old Russian Record in 200 Free

MOSCOW, Russia, June 4. WITH Yuliya Efimova already dropping the 100 breaststroke Russian record twice so far, Danila Izotov jumped into the record-breaking action at the Russian Nationals today.

Izotov clocked a time of 1:46.65 to break the 16-year-old Russian record of 1:46.70 set by Yevgeni Sadovyi during his gold-medal performance at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Sadovyi's efforts that year, three Olympics gold medals and two world records, earned him Swimming World Magazine World Swimmer of the Year honors along with Krisztina Egerszegi.

Izotov's time moved him up to eighth best this year behind Klete Keller's 1:46.56 and ahead of Patrick Murphy's 1:46.67.
