Open Water Test Event: Petar Stoychev Wins Men’s 10K, Qualifies for Olympics

BEIJING, China, May 31. OUR man on the scene, Swimming World Special Correspondent Steven Munatones, is reporting that Petar Stoychev has won the men's 10K at the Beijing Open Water Test Event.

Stoychev is the current world record holder for the quickest swim across the English Channel in six hours and 57 minutes. He eclipsed the former 2005 record of seven hours and three minutes previously held by Christof Wandratsch.

Csaba Gercsak of Hungary finished second, while Rostislav Vitek of the Czech Republic placed third. Chad Ho completed the top four for South Africa, in a brutal competition that featured eight yellow cards and numerous warning whistles.

Further information will be posted as it becomes available.
