Speedo Grand Challenge: Rebecca Soni, Jessica Hardy, Dominik Meichtry Post Fast Times in Final Day

IRVINE, California, May 25. THE final day of swimming took place at the Speedo Grand Challenge with some quick times going down.

Lynette Lim, 16, began the final session of action with a victory in the women's 800 free. She clocked a time of 8:48.46, while Lyndsay DePaul finished second in 9:00.44. Aislinn Smalling (9:04.65) and Jessica Heim (9:06.90) wrapped up the top four spots.

Rebecca Soni blistered the field in the women's 200 breast with a time of 2:24.74. That is the seventh-best readout in the world this year, behind Annamay Pierse's 2:24.65 and ahead of Seul-Ki Jung's 2:25.07. Keri Hehn finished second in a quick 2:25.73, while Lindsay Payne (2:32.35) and Andrea Kropp (2:36.26) made up the rest of the top four.

Cheyne Bloch followed in the men's 200 breast with a time of 2:17.26, barely knocking off Miguel Molina, who touched second in 2:17.64. Vanni Mangoni (2:19.37) and Scott Weltz (2:21.32) took third and fourth.

Larsen Jensen emerged from the men's 1500 free with the title in 15:05.87, while Chad La Tourette finished second in 15:20.20. Zane Grothe (16:03.34) and Brock Redondo (16:05.24) earned third and fourth.

In another tight contest, Ashley Vrieze touched out Brooke Bishop, 1:03.41 to 1:03.77, in the women's 100 back. Samantha Taylor placed third in 1:06.13, while Kayla Alf-Huynh took fourth in 1:08.09.

For the men, Peter Marshall topped the 100 back with a time of 55.55, while Peter Davis (57.10), Justin Carter (57.88) and Oliver Spees (58.20) finished second through fourth.

Yumi So snagged the women's 200 fly title in 2:13.71, while DePaul turned in another second-place time with a 2:15.16. Megan Fischer-Colbrie took third in 2:15.44, while Monika Friedman finished fourth in 2:16.92.

Eddie Erazo put together a first-place time of 1:58.99 in the men's 200 fly, while Tamas Kerekjarto took second in 1:59.28. Patrick Cary (2:01.30) and Meir Hasbani (2:01.54) finished third and fourth.

Jessica Hardy smoked the women's 100 free in 54.44, which is among the top 20 times in the world this year. Bishop took second in 56.34, while Missy Franklin (56.84) and Maddy Schaefer (57.36) placed third and fourth.

Dominik Meichtry joined Hardy in providing fireworks to end the meet with a sterling time of 49.62 in the men's 100 free. Kicker Vencill finished second in 50.34, while Gabe Woodward (50.81) and Buddy Turner (51.30) completed the championship heat.
